Firmware 1.4 installation instructions – Windows Edition

Steps:
1. Format a 1 or 2 GB SD card (large cards will not work)
2. Copy the .Elf file to the root directory of the SD card

3. Turn off the POV Recording Unit, remove the USB cable and SD Card, and lock the SD card
4. Insert the SD card, hold the settings button, and press power
5. Wait for the blinking LED to stop blinking
6. Enjoy the 1.4 Firmware upgrade.


Step 1. Formatting the SD card

You will need to format a 1 or 2 GB SD card in order to perform the update!

Formatting the 1 or 2GB card completely erases everything on the SD card!

To format the SD card please refer to the following steps:

  1. Turn the POV Recording unit on by pressing the power button
  2. Press the SETTINGS button to enter the settings menu.
  3. Press the left (PREV) or the right (NXT) soft key until the settings menu gives you an option to format the SD card.
  4. Press the SELECT KEY. Next press the right (NXT) soft key to change the selection to YES, when it is highlighted in red press the select key.
  5. The screen will display “FORMATTING”.
  6. When the Settings menu reappears connect the POV to the computer via a USB cable. Make sure the LCD screen on the Recording unit says “USB Mode”.

Step 2. Copying the .Elf file to the Root Directory of the SD card
Step 2a. Open the zip file and copy the .elf file
Please copy the file as described below:

  1. Left click on the file, so that it is highlighted.
  2. Next right click to bring up the menu.
  3. Click on the copy command on the menu.
  4. After you have copied the file you may close this window.

Step 2b. Accessing the SD card 1
Next you will need to open the computer menu. To do this:

  1. Click the Start Button, and press the Computer button.
  2. Click the button labeled “Computer” (Windows Vista)
    or “My Computer” (Windows XP) to bring up the
    Computer window.

  1. Next access the SD card by clicking on the drive labeled POV.1.
  2. The drive letter (H: in this case) may be different on your computer.

Step 2d. Paste the file on to the root directory of the SD card

  1. Now just paste the .elf file to the SD card and you are done with the computer based steps.
    • Note: The file should appear NEXT to the VIO folder.
  2. Right click on any of the white space.
  3. Click paste command on the menu.

Step 3. Turn off the POV Recording Unit, remove the USB cable and SD Card, and lock the SD card
Now that you have placed the .elf file on the SD card please power down the POV Recording Unit, remove the USB cable, and remove the SD card from the POV Recording unit and lock it.
To lock the SD card move the tab down to put the SD card into the locked position.

Step 4. Insert the SD card, hold the settings button, and press power
Next you will have to flash the firmware on the POV Recording Unit

To flash the POV Recording unit:

  1. First press and hold the SETTINGS button. Hold the SETTINGS button until Step 5.
  2. Next power the POV on. Press the power button once, while still holding the SETTINGS button.

Step 5. Wait for the blinking LED to stop blinking

  1. The indicator light will flash. You may now stop pressing the SETTINGS button.
  2. Once the light has stopped flashing you may remove the SD card and your firmware will now be version 1.4

Step 6. Enjoy the 1.4 Firmware upgrade.
